10 Lessons for Awakening & Healing

This new year of 2015 has started for me on a new page, with new creative flows and ideas. I am excited to launch the BeLightLiving.com website to share the beautiful insights and wisdom that I and many of my teacher friends have gathered over the course of years. It feels that just yesterday, I was looking in the mirror and trying to figure out how did I get a  rash on my throat. Few days later, my chiropractor and energy healer helped me to connect to this rash, and profound words: power, love and writing, were vocalized as important messages. As I connected the dots, it was clear that I need to continue writing and express my truth to the world. 2014 has been a dark year for me, in the process I let go of what doesn’t serve me anymore, and learned how to re-empower myself. My personal experience I believe served a mirror to the collective consciousness that is embarking on a journey of transformation in the new age of Aquarius. Here are some of the lessons that I want to share from my own journey, which I believe were important to awaken my truth and heal my wounds:

1. Self Love

You can be the most beautiful person in the world and everybody sees light and rainbows when they look at you, but if you yourself don’t know it, all of that doesn’t even matter. Every second that you spend on doubting your worth, every moment that you use to criticize yourself; is a second of your life wasted, is a moment of your life thrown away. It is also so important to find the balance of taking care of yourself and not just giving yourself away to others. We often bend our values and principles to please the other, to make sure we are accepted. However, in doing so, we loose our own self respect. So when you wake up in the morning, you are with yourself, laying in bed at night you are with yourself, walking down the street in the sunlight you are with yourself. What kind of person do you want to walk down the street with? What kind of person do you want to wake up in the morning with? What kind of person do you want to see at the end of the day before you fall asleep? Because that person is yourself, and it’s your responsibility to be that person you want to be with. So it’s important to be strong and let go of what doesn’t serve you, let go of sacrifices to regain self respect and self worth. At the end of the day, you need to love yourself and by doing so you will find your true power!

2. Love

There are so many books about love and intimacy these days.  And there are so many conversations between friends about heart breaks and open wounds. I feel these past few years; I have found myself in many dark places due to my relationships with men. Many of my girlfriends found themselves in similar places. My men are very special to me as they came into my life with strong soul connection and tore me apart in the process, reflecting back what I was afraid to face. I created many illusions, so my pink glasses were smashed and traditional concepts began to shift and redefine themselves.  As I started to reflect on my patterns and refocus my energy on what I want to attract, I hit the ‘aha’ moment to understand that love is not about losing or winning. It is just a few moments in time, followed by an eternity of situations to grow from. That true ‘happily ever after’ is never about getting a person. The people who come into your life are helpmates towards achieving each other’s life mission, whatever that might be at that time and space.

The beauty of life is in its fragility and uncertainty. If things are defined, we easily get bored. Yet, our ego mind wants to know what the future holds, as a psychological security and holding to attachments we want, we think will satisfy.  Sometimes, we fear and we are insecure about going deeper into our special connection because it might be lost or it won’t be exactly how we want it to be. However, this way, we waste ourselves in the worrying since we live based on our past or the unforeseen future.

What I understand is that our heart needs to be open to love, living love in the moment wholeheartedly. There might be next moments together or might not be. There are no promises. There shouldn’t be any expectations. We need to accept life and surrender as though it’s an open fortress without defenses. This fortress might have its gates, but it allows the energy to flow and bubble, otherwise it will stagnate.

3. Surrender

I learned that there are things that we just don’t have control over, and it’s best to surrender to the universe to allow them to happen as they need to. I just had a conversion with a friend whose birth of her daughter totally didn’t go as she planned and she ended having a c-section. She was devasted about it. But I assured her that she has done everything she could to have a natural labor and it’s ok if it didn’t, as long as the baby is healthy. So there are thing that go wrong that don’t always go as planned. And there are things that turn just right. Some things don’t always get fixed or get put back together the way there were before. Some broken things stay broken. Sometimes you need to go through rough ride to keep looking for better ones. The key is to surrender to the journey. After all, we come here, to live and to learn, and be the best students we can. So let your life be your fun playground and your best class! 🙂

4. Intention

Everything in this world is energy. The energy manifests and heals when we have a focused intention. In this new year, you need to set intention on things you want to change in your life, areas of your body you want to heal, abundance you want to manifest etc. Sit down and write your dream list. You can even take it a step further and create your dream collage. After you are done, focus on your list and collage and ask the universe to provide. As you set your focused positive intention, make sure that you surrender to numerous possibilities and allow the universe to deliver the rest.

5. Intuition

Do you remember the last time when you had that feeling that you can’t explain and all you can say is “I just know”? Well, that “hunch” feeling is your intuition that comes in different forms: clairvoyance is when you eye goes beyond what it can see, when you feel beyond logic, or you sense through listening, clairaudience, the sound causes an intense feeling. Your intuition is your guide to discovering yourself and the world around you. In this new year, I challenge you to develop your intuition – believe in your first impressions, observe when you are at a point when you need to make a decision, let go of expectations, and instead listen and feel what your senses are telling you.

6. Breath/Life Force

I will never forget my energy teacher Patrick Zeigler repeating in his broken Spanish in my Reiki All Love energy workshop in Madrid the only two words he knew – “respirar y sentir”, “breathe and feel”. We often run around doing things in our hectic life and forget to slow down and pay attention to ourselves or how we breathe. The breath is essential to beginning and ending of life and life force energy. I challenge you to start this year by practicing few minutes a day some breathing exercise with filling your body with air and holding it. For example, inhale with your nose and fill you stomach with air. Hold few seconds. Exhale with your mouth as though you emptying a balloon. Repeat this sequence for 3-5 minutes and stop with your eyes closed. Notice how you feel, how different your body feels.

7. Meditation

Meditating means finding peace in yourself. If your mind and heart are cluttered with too much baggage and pain you wouldn’t be able to quiet down that part of you that could eventually bring your intuition or your state of mind to a place of rest. There are many ways to meditate. This new year, take a yoga class, go out to nature or just simply practice some breathing that could bring you straight to calmness and peacefulness.

8. Nutrition

According to Dr. Gabriel Cousens, who wrote numerous popular books on nutrition such as “Conscious Eating” and “Spiritual Nutrition” and I had the pleasure to meet at his rejuvenation center at Arizona called Tree of Life – “Thoughts about food determine how we relate to food and ultimately to other people…As one shifts to a healthier diet the stored toxins start coming out of the tissues.”  In this new year, try to apply this concept of “you are what you eat” to your approach to your food. It might be the right time to reevaluate the choices you make in selecting a cookie versus a carrot for a snack. Whatever the choice you make, consciously notice how your body responds to the particular meal you consume, how much water you drink, and what kind of vitamin supplements do you take.

9. Dance

From incredible dance teachers such as Gabrielle Roth (5Rhythms) and Parashakti (Dance of Liberation), I learned that dance is the hidden language of the soul. We are the dance that needs to be put in motion and allowed to be expressed. You might not be a dancer, but the dance is already within you. In the new year, I challenge you to find those precious moments in your life to dance your pulse, your heartbeat, your breathing. To dance your rhythm of life as an expression of time and movement, in happiness, joy, sadness and envy. Just dance your emotions within yourself whether alone or with someone you want to share your dance with.

10. Gratitude

The discovery of magic can happen only when we transcend our embarrassment about being alive, when we have the bravery to proclaim the goodness and dignity of human life, without either hesitation or arrogance. As you enter the new year, don’t forget to be grateful for the miracle of being alive. It’s important to cultivate the habit for being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. The words “Thank You” carry high vibration energy of Love. So don’t forget to carry that vibration to your daily life, to thank your friend for a good deed, to thank the meal you get to eat, and thank universe for the air you get to breathe – the miracle of life.

Let us serve the world soulfully and with gratitude, and the world will smile back!

All is Love!
